Ehh ok… is that supposed to be there?
Today I’m going to talk about the album Trouble (1999) by Buckwheat Zydeco and specifically one song on the album I have listened to many times. I really love that song because of the spontaneous feelings and expressions and how he (Stanley Dural) uses the words and pronounces them differently each time they occur. He’s having a great time and loves playing the music. He’s in a playful mood! Actually, in general, Stanley Dural (which I’m going to call him hereafter) is like an entertainer in every tune. He plays with the lyrics more or less and puts in words and different odd sounds between the words, so you don’t know if they are supposed to be there or not, but probably not.
Definately hard to stop
So the song I’m going to discuss is Hard to Stop. Stanley Dural repeats the words “hard to stop” over and over again. But the actual lyrics might be simple to point out if you listen carefully, since you can clearly hear when it’s improvised. Just take the first forty (40) seconds as an example. He sings the following lines:
It’s so hard to (yeah)….
It’s so hard to stop… (woman in here)
So hard to stop when you hold a blow
It’s so hard to stop when you zydeco
It’s so hard to stop when you’re having fun
I don’t know if I have got all the lyrics right, but I think so. The word “yeah” and “woman in here” might not be in the original lyrics. When it comes to the first sentence “It’s so hard to (yeah)”, he has replaced the word “stop” with a “yeah”, like he got the feeling and forgot to sing the whole phrase. I’m not sure about the second line, but here he sings the chorus right, but then he yells out “woman in here” which I’m not sure about if it’s correct. Both examples are clearly not a part of the lyrics. It’s just a pure feeling he got when playing the song I guess.
Throughout the whole song he sings “yeah” several times between the words of the lyrics, but he expresses that “yeah” differently each time. There’s even a time when he sings “yes sir” and then another time when he sings something like “giddy giddy” (I’m not sure about that last one). So…If you want to listen to a “man with great feelings” as I would call him, you should listen to this song!
If you’re thinking about the title like “What does that mean?”, I have absolutely no explanation. I just love it because of its absurdity. “Hard to stop when you’re looking good” makes no sense whatsoever, but I loved it very much because of that!
